Formosan Black Bear

The Formosan Black Bear (Ursus thibetanus formosanus) is an endangered wild black bear subspecies of the Asiatic Black Bear found in Taiwan. They are also known as the white-throated bear.

The animals are native to Taiwan and are the largest animals that can be found on the island. They are also the only bears that are on the island. Formosan Bears can often be seen in the mountainous forests in the eastern majority of the island, at elevations between 3,000-10,000 ft.

The diet of the Formosan Black Bears is basically the same as other Asiatic Black Bears, as they are omnivorous and mainly eat leaves, buds, fruits, roots, insects, and small animals, and sometimes carcasses.
